Seminar Description
A seminar on Chicago food that doesn’t include deep dish pizza or hot dogs? You bet! Led by author Jean Iversen, this seminar will examine Chicago’s culinary presence primarily through its restaurants, which will serve as the lens through which we will view evolving local tastes, trends, and demographics. We will explore the histories of Chicago neighborhoods and famous Chicago foods (like flaming saganaki and the jibarito). By examining Chicago’s culinary past and present, we will also try to imagine the city’s gustatory future. This will include a culinary tour of Pilsen. The first session will meet at the Newberry.
