Collapsing Borders: Poetry, Body, Landscape

In this poetry-focused workshop, we will consider the body as landscape, the landscape as a body, and language as both body and landscape, questioning each relationship as we explore five contemporary poetry collections.

Newberry Adult Education Seminars will meet virtually via Zoom. For more information about the Newberry’s virtual seminars, including a Zoom tutorial, please see our Virtual Seminars FAQ page. If you have questions about online learning, please reach out to seminars@newberry.org.

Seminar Description

In this poetry-focused workshop, we will consider the body as landscape, the landscape as a body, and language as both body and landscape, questioning each relationship as we explore five contemporary poetry collections: Milk Black Carbon by Joan Naviyuk Kane; Recyclopedia by Harryette Mullen; Hull by Xandria Phillips; Whereas by Layli Long Soldier; and DMZ Colony by Don Mee Choi. Each week, we will read one collection, discuss it, and generate work in relation to the collection’s ideas, moods, and shapes. No experience is assumed or necessary--all are welcome!

Five sessions. Registration – $220
