Class Description
Take a deep dive into the rich and diverse world of Indigenous poetry in what is today known as North America. Through a curated selection of poems, both in written text and spoken word, we will explore the unique voices, themes, and perspectives that characterize modern Indigenous poetry. Participants will engage in close readings of poems, group discussions, and critical analysis. They will have opportunities to share their reflections on the poetry and its relevance to contemporary issues. By the end of the course, students will have a deeper appreciation of the diversity and power of contemporary Native poetry and its role in shaping Indigenous narratives and perspectives.
Léna Remy-Kovach is a Lecturer and a PhD candidate in Indigenous Studies. She specializes in contemporary Native literature. She lives in Teejop, also known as Madison, Wisconsin, on traditional Ho-Chunk territory.
