Explore the hidden world of cybercrime in this engaging, practical three-hour class designed for curious adults seeking digital peace of mind. Understand how cybercriminals operate—from phishing emails to sophisticated scams—and learn the strategies that organizations, governments, and individuals use to safeguard information, financial data, and privacy. The class will also focus on hands-on insights into password security, safe browsing, and digital best practices. Students will leave equipped with actionable tools and a personalized cybersecurity guide to protect yourself and your family in an increasingly connected world.

Tom Irvine leads Information Technology for a manufacturing company during the day, and teaches classes on history, mysteries, and business strategy at night. He has taught over 15 classes at the Newberry Library.

Cost and Registration

1 Session, $65 ($58.50 for Newberry members, seniors, and students). Learn about becoming a member.

We offer our classes at three different price options: Regular ($65), Community Supported ($60), and Sponsor ($70). Following the models of other institutions, we want to ensure that our classes are accessible to a wider audience while continuing to support our instructors. You may choose the price that best fits your situation when registering through Learning Stream.
