Seminar Description

Take an in-depth look at Edvard Munch’s 1893 painting The Scream in this half-day seminar. We will explore the work’s place in Western art history, Norwegian culture, trends in late 19th-century art, and Munch’s artistic production. We will also consider some of the work’s manifold interpretations and its iterations in popular culture.

Margaret Farr is an art historian who has worked at the Art Institute of Chicago and has taught at numerous colleges and universities. A specialist in nineteenth-century art, her other interests include modern and contemporary art. She is currently an adjunct lecturer at the Art Institute.
