Elliott Gorn, Loyola University Chicago

Memory

Our Writing History Seminar discussion will focus on a portion of Elliott Gorn's book forthcoming with Oxford University Press about the 1955 murder of Emmett Till. We will read the last section of the book, titled "Memory" (the first three sections are "Murder," "Trial," and "Verdicts.") "Memory" is eighty pages long, broken up into five short chapters. Please keep in mind that what you are reading has not been copy-edited, so it might be a little rough. That said, it is past the point of where major changes are possible.

Because this manuscript is part of a book in-production, please, please, please do not circulate it beyond our seminar.

Elliott Gorn, by the way, teaches U.S. history at Loyola University Chicago.
