“In angles & corners”: A Community of Reading ‘Paupers’ in Late Medieval England

Erin Wagner, SUNY Delhi

This paper will trace the connections between a community of ‘heretical’ readers in the medieval diocese of Norwich, as evidenced through heresy trials and other records, in order to initiate a seminar discussion about pedagogical equity in unconventional spaces. It will also ask us to consider a model of literacy that is communal rather than individual.
