In appreciation of their generous support of the Newberry, Newberry Associates at the Humanists level and above, President's Fellows, and other select Newberry supporters are invited to the exhibition opening of Chicago Avant-Garde: Five Women Ahead of Their Time.
Presented in celebration of radical Chicago women who subverted convention and lived boldly in accordance with their art, this new exhibition highlights the work of artist Gertrude Abercrombie, poet Gwendolyn Brooks, choreographers Katherine Dunham and Ruth Page, and dealer-curator Katharine Kuh.
Chicago Avant-Garde: Five Women Ahead of Their Time is made possible through the generous support of the Terra Foundation for American Art, the Walter E. Heller Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the History Channel.
