In this genealogy workshop, you will learn how to identify your ancestor’s place of worship, access surviving records, and solve common family history puzzles such as maiden names and overseas birthplaces.

Newberry Adult Education Seminars will meet virtually via Zoom. For more information about the Newberry’s virtual seminars, including a Zoom tutorial, please see our Virtual Seminars FAQ page. If you have questions about online learning, please reach out to seminars@newberry.org.

Seminar Description

Church records contain many surprises beyond baptisms, marriages, and deaths. They provide clues to towns of origin, immigration information, church communities, finances, and more. Church records predate governments and often have information on family members under-represented in government records, including women, children, immigrants, and minorities. In this genealogy workshop, you will learn how to identify your ancestor’s place of worship, access surviving records, and solve common family history puzzles such as maiden names and overseas birthplaces.

One session. Registration – $50
