Class Description
In this, the centennial year of his birth, this three-part seminar will explore the life and legacy of Frantz Fanon (1925-1961) as a public intellectual, physician, and source of artistic inspiration. Through an application of diverse learning styles, we will seek to gain an understanding of Fanon’s life and work both through current biographies, the creations of his contemporaries, and influence of his predecessors; all operating across multiple disciples. Adam Shatz’s 2024 biography of Fanon, The Rebel's Clinic: The Revolutionary Lives of Frantz Fanon, will serve as the primary text for the course.
Ahmad Bracey (he/him) is an intergenerational arts educator and researcher from Chicago. He is currently Manager of Learning: School and Youth Communities at The Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago. He has previously led a class at the Newberry on the History of Black American Agriculture (Fall 2024).
