French Pamphlets and Digital Pedagogy at the Newberry

The Newberry’s Digital Initiative and Services (DIS) recently completed a major project to digitize 38,000 French pamphlets from the sixteenth through the eighteenth century thanks to a grant from the Council on Library and Information Resources. In conjunction with the digitization, DIS and the Center for Renaissance Studies developed a digital pedagogy website that engaged DePaul and UIC students and faculty with the research and translation of the pamphlets. In this colloquium Jennifer Dalzin, Director of DIS, will first introduce the collection and project through a presentation she gave in conjunction with the Frankfurt Book Fair in October 2017 about the history of the FRC (French Revolution Collection) and Michel Bernstein (the bookseller from whom the Newberry purchased the collection). Two students who have aided with the creation of the website will discuss their experience: Newberry intern and UIC graduate student in French, Julianne Brooks, and UIC undergraduate, Carmen Morales.
