Genealogical Methodology in Practice: Conflict Resolution From Sicily to Lincoln Park

This course explores genealogy through a fun, hands-on case study of a Sicilian immigrant family who resided in Chicago’s “Little Hell” neighborhood in the first decades of the twentieth century. In this seminar you will learn to use tried and true strategies to resolve conflicts in the evidence, including falsified identities.

Beginning January 2018 the Newberry will be undertaking renovation of much of the first floor. Seminar Description

This course explores genealogy through a fun, hands-on case study of a Sicilian immigrant family who resided in Chicago’s “Little Hell” neighborhood in the first decades of the twentieth century. In this seminar you will learn to use tried and true strategies to resolve conflicts in the evidence, including falsified identities. The focus is on extracting every bit of useful information from the records and putting the information through tests of analysis and correlation. In-depth analysis tools will be provided. Three sessions.

Karen Stanbary, CG(SM) is trained in advanced genealogical methodologies and the tools for DNA in complex genealogical problem-solving. Her case study incorporating DNA was published in the National Genealogical Society Quarterly (June 2016) and was awarded the NGSQ Award for Excellence.
