Class Description
During the decades since the Second World War, London has undergone enormous changes, while retaining its vitality as one of the world’s greatest cities. Topics to be treated in this seminar will include post-war rebuilding after wartime devastation; the transformation of the city by new waves of immigrants; the “Swinging London” of the 1960s; the redevelopment of the docklands; London as a financial center; and establishment of devolved government with an elected mayor.
Frank Biletz received his PhD in history from the University of Chicago, with a primary specialization in modern British and Irish history. He is currently Adjunct Instructor in History at Loyola University Chicago and has been teaching classes at the Newberry since 1994.
