Class Description
Experience the world of late nineteenth-century Paris through the paintings of the Impressionist Gustave Caillebotte, artist of the renowned Paris Street, Rainy Day. Though not as widely known as some of his peers, Caillebotte nevertheless forged a modernist style steeped in both tradition and experimentation. This seminar will explore his pivotal artworks by considering his relationship to the newly modernized cityscape, along with an analysis of concomitant developments in art criticism and Realist literature promoting ardent engagement with the contemporary world.
All virtual classes are recorded and made available to participants registered in the class. These recordings are password-protected and available for up to two weeks after the class ends.
