I Wrote Something. Now What?

You've got a poem, story, or essay sitting in a drawer or on your hard drive somewhere, and you've always meant to send it somewhere--but where? It all seems more complicated than it should be, and it's hard to know where to start.

Newberry Adult Education Seminars will meet virtually via Zoom. For more information about the Newberry’s virtual seminars, including a Zoom tutorial, please see our Virtual Seminars FAQ page. If you have questions about online learning, please reach out to seminars@newberry.org.

Seminar Description

You've got a poem, story, or essay sitting in a drawer or on your hard drive somewhere, and you've always meant to send it somewhere--but where? It all seems more complicated than it should be, and it's hard to know where to start. Journal rankings? Contests? Submission fees? Simultaneous submissions? Let's cut through all the confusion. Come with a piece of writing (or two, or three), and leave with a much clearer path to publication.

One session. Registration – $40

Molia Dumbleton's fiction has appeared in Kenyon Review, New England Review, Cincinnati Review, Witness, and elsewhere. She has been awarded the Sean O Faolain Story Prize and the Columbia Journal Fiction Prize, among others. She teaches at DePaul University.
