This program highlights indigenous concepts of identity and sexuality that surpass standard contemporary gender binaries. Many American Indian and other indigenous communities have historically celebrated multiple and diverse gender identifications, including two-spirit peoples, as well as the unique roles that women and men contribute to warrior societies, political leadership, sovereignty, and home life.

The symposium will feature preeminent scholars, artists, and local community members, who will explore artistic and other cultural expressions of this powerful, unique indigenous history. View a PDF flyer for a schedule of presenters.

This program is provided with collaborative support from Northwestern University.
