Seminar Description

Intermediate Poetry is an opportunity for experienced poets to build their knowledge of their craft, receive detailed feedback from thoughtful peers, and develop a strong writing community to support their work.

We will balance class time between studying the best of contemporary poetry, reading across a wide range of genres and styles, and work-shopping each other's work. Further, the course will provide guidance to students who hope to begin submitting their work to literary journals.

Toby Altman is the author of two books of poetry, Discipline Park (Wendy’s Subway, 2022) and Arcadia, Indiana (Plays Inverse, 2017). He holds a PhD in English from Northwestern University and an MFA in Poetry from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop.
