Class Description
This class explores the richness, variety, and depth of selected poetry and translations by Nobel Laureate Seamus Heaney (1939-2013). Heaney's poetry vividly portrays rural life; the connectedness of family and community; the tragic human costs of violence; and the hard-won ethical turn toward hope and trust in others despite losses and injuries.
Joseph Heininger is a professor of English at Dominican University in River Forest, Illinois. He has published on Joyce, Heaney, Robert Graves, Micheal O' Siadhail, and other writers. His interests include modern and contemporary poetry and ecological approaches to literature.
