Library Services and Premodern Studies: An Introduction

NULL

Classical, medieval, and early modern studies have always relied on the work of library professionals. This workshop is designed to introduce participants to the contributions catalogers, archivists, curators, and conservators have made to our understanding of the premodern world, which go well beyond the practical work necessary to make primary and secondary sources accessible for scholars. Following the symposium, “The Art of Images in Premodern Books,” graduate students and faculty from all disciplines will be introduced to expertise and unique perspectives that library professionals can bring to all fields of premodern studies. Through intensive sessions with Newberry catalogers, conservators, and curators, participants from all fields will gain a greater understanding of the work of professional librarians and how collaborating with them can enhance any research into premodern culture.
