Seminar Description

Explore the Hundred Years War, the Black Death, the Age of Wycliffe, the Peasants’ Revolt, the Wars of the Roses, and other highlights of medieval British history. Quality historical novels by P.C. Doherty, Sharon Penman, Josephine Tey, and others will provide an engaging introduction to the period. With the readings as background, we will discuss historical issues such as family dynasties, civil wars, taxation, peasant rebellions, anti-clericalism, plagues, royal intrigues, and everyday life. Ten sessions.

Matthew Bird, law librarian and independent scholar, holds a BA in history from Princeton University and a PhD in international politics from the University of Wales.
