Women were highly sought-after as piano and organ accompanists for silent films, signifying the presence of morality and good taste in the nascent cinema industry. In this talk, Kendra Preston Leonard will discuss her research and recent findings on who these performers, composers, and innovators were, how they prepared for or were trained for playing in movie theaters, how they found employment, what they were paid, and how far their influence extended in the profession.
