Event—Public Programming

NewberryFest

Celebrate all things Newberry with collection presentations, guided tours, information sessions, and so much more at our new summer fest!

Join us for our summer fest, an event designed to help you learn more about the Newberry. NewberryFest will take over the first floor of the library, providing unique opportunities for engagement, education, and enjoyment!

This event is free and open to all; no registration is necessary.

  • Come face-to-face with extraordinary items from our collections and have your questions answered by our expert librarians and curators.

  • Enjoy a lineup of talks and performances that will help you navigate all the Newberry has to offer, learn about upcoming classes and exhibitions, and give you a glimpse into programming at the library.

  • The Shakespeare Project of Chicago will present Songbook Shakespeare at 12pm.

  • 2nd Story will lead a collaborative workshop at 1:30pm. They will encourage participants to explore the Newberry's collection materials together through storytelling prompts to connect community building with the archives.

  • Join the Documents Bureau for a creative interpretation of bureaucracy in the Newberry Lobby from 11am-3pm.

  • Visit two exhibitions—Native Pop! and Winging It: A Brief History of Humanity’s Relationship with Birds.

  • Take a tour to the upper levels of the Newberry to learn more about the library’s history and see our Special Collections Reading Room.

  • Shop our used book sale, which promises to offer literary treasures at low prices.

  • Visit the Newberry Bookshop, where you'll find more than just books. All attendees at NewberryFest receive 10% off their purchase!
