Class Description
The Spanish-Mexican surrealist painter Remedios Varo (1908-1963) has been featured in two exhibitions in Chicago: "The Magic of Remedios Varo" in 2000 at the National Museum of Mexican Art and "Remedios Varo: Science Fictions" in 2023 at the Art Institute. We will explore the artist's work from her beginnings as a commercial artist to her development as a successful surrealist painter as a political refugee in Mexico. This participatory class encourages analysis and class discussion of the artist's works.
RoseAnna Mueller received her PhD in Comparative Literature from CUNY Graduate School and is Faculty Emeritus at Columbia College Chicago. She has taught such courses as "Latin American Women in the Arts" and "Mexican Culture and the Arts,” and presented the 2023 Art Institute exhibit at the RotiRoti Art Center of Buchanan, Michigan.
