Seminar Description
This seminar will explore the current condition of Russia--including its conflicted relationship with the West--through the prism of its literature and popular culture. Russian thinkers have traditionally turned to literature as a vehicle for expressing, promoting, and defending their ideas on philosophy, religion, and society. As a result, Russian literature has developed into a potent vehicle for understanding the history of ideas that have shaped the country at different stages of its existence.

Nina Wieda teaches at Northwestern University. She received her PhD in Russian literature from Northwestern University and her MA in nationalism studies from Central European University.
