Second Saturday in April: International Children's Book Day

NULL

Join us for a springtime celebration of National Poetry Month and International Children’s Book Day. Author and artist Laura Nyman Montenegro will read from her book A Poet's Bird Garden and lead children in a craft workshop to create their own beautiful bird puppets!

When Natalie’s pet bird, Chirpie, gets out and flies straight up into the tree, there’s only one thing to do, call the poets! Priyanka, Vincent, Lily, Pendleton, and Marion soon arrive, full of suggestions about how to lure Chirpie down from the tree where she’s perched. Priyanka thinks Natalie should stand still like a statue. Vincent suggests that she wiggle like a worm. Then Marion comes up with a grand and wonderful plan, one that Chirpie surely cannot resist. Natalie and the poets work together to put this plan into action, but is it enough? Will Chirpie come down?

Come find out about Chirpie's adventure and make your very own Beautiful Bird Puppet!
Adorn it in color, feathers, wild shapes or delicate designs.
Then let it fly home with you!

Laura Nyman Montenegro is an award-winning author/illustrator of award-winning children’s picture books including, A Poet’s Bird Garden, A Bird About to Sing, Sweet Tooth, and One Stuck Drawer.
