Class Description

This class will explore seven of Chicago’s neighborhoods on the Near South Side through a series of readings and walking tours. In each community, we will study the history and built environment, paying special attention to trends in residential and social life and the preservation and adaptive use of historic buildings.

Diane Dillon is a scholar in residence at the Newberry. She holds a PhD in the history of art from Yale University.
