Class Description
Palestine is one of the oldest countries in the world yet one of the least understood. This class will be an exploration of Palestine—not in relation to any other country or identity. Explore topics including: What does it mean to be Palestinian? How have Palestinians documented their stories and identities in their embroidery? What is the significance of the land to the people who come from and continue to inhabit it today? How has Palestinian culture grown/transformed/been represented in the recent past?
As we discuss these topics we will also be learning and growing in our Palestinian embroidery skills. This class is beginner-friendly! Join us in this one-of-a-kind course in Fall 2024!
Jenin is a Palestinian embroidery artist who is deeply passionate about educating communities about Palestinians and humanizing them through the art of embroidery. After years of teaching her loved ones tatreez (Palestinian embroidery), she launched Tatreez Jenin in 2024, where she teaches workshops around the country about Palestine through the historic and hands-on practice of tatreez.
