Class Description
Tea is available nearly everywhere in the present day. However, in the early modern Western world, it was an exotic and luxurious beverage, often at the center of political turmoil, geographical exploration, and medical observation. Learn about this rich history of tea through a lecture and tasting of several teas available in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.
Sarah Peters Kernan, culinary historian, is a regular collaborator with the Newberry Library. In addition to regularly writing and teaching, she is co-editor of The Recipes Project and host of the Around the Table podcast.
