To celebrate the 125th anniversary of the opening of the Newberry Library’s 1893 building, this one-day seminar will examine the building in its historical, architectural, and neighborhood contexts.

Seminar Description

To celebrate the 125th anniversary of the opening of the Newberry Library’s 1893 building, this one-day seminar will examine the building in its historical, architectural, and neighborhood contexts. The session will include an introduction to the history of the library and the career of architect Henry Ives Cobb; a collection presentation of relevant materials from the Newberry’s institutional archives; and walking tours of the library’s interior, exterior, and surrounding neighborhood.

Diane Dillon is Director of Exhibitions and Major Projects at the Newberry Library. She holds a PhD in the history of art from Yale University.
