Hear from the artists behind this new opera, which had its world premiere just three years ago at Beth Morrison Project's PROTOTYPE Festival.

The Scarlet Ibis tells the story of a young boy named Doodle and his relationship with his Brother, in North Carolina against the backdrop of World War I. Composer Stefan Weisman and librettist David Cote adapted the magical 1960 short story by James Hurst for this new opera. February 16 through 24 at Chicago Opera Theater, Chicago stage and movement director Elizabeth Margolius joins conductor and contemporary music expert David Hanlon to bring this story to life.

Listen to performances from this beautiful piece, learn more about what it takes to adapt a short story for operatic performance, and get an inside look at director Elizabeth Margolius's plans for the newest opera in COT's season.
