Insularity, Interaction, and Integration: The Environmental and Ecological Impacts of the Anglo-Norman Conquest of Ireland, Vicky McAlister
The environmental impact of the Anglo-Norman conquest of Ireland is both an underappreciated and under-studied aspect of a much-discussed event. This paper showcases an innovative multidisciplinary methodology to articulate the long-term effects of Anglo-Norman settlement on agriculture, animal populations, and natural resource exploitation. It argues that study of medieval landscape alterations should be considered within the wider discourse of colonial environmental history.
