For the Fall 2021 term, we're offering a mix of virtual and in-person classes. Although we are still primarily virtual, you will find a smaller selection of in-person seminars in the schedule. For more information about the Newberry’s virtual seminars, including a Zoom tutorial, please see our Virtual Seminars FAQ page. Registration opens on September 1st at 9am (Central time). Registration will take place through our online platform, Learning Stream.

Seminar Description

This class uses visual art as a springboard for new prose writing. We’ll mine a range of media available through Google Arts & Culture and online offerings at a variety of museums and galleries to unearth new prose projects or add depth and breadth to works in progress. To help with the creative percolation, we’ll read short published works that have been inspired by visual art. Exercises, readings, and discussions will cover process, character, story, and landscape (internal and external). Students will lightly workshop one short story or essay, gaining feedback from classmates and the instructor.

Four sessions. Registration – $195
