Getting Started with Archival Research

Class Description

Are you curious about how archives could take your research to the next level? Using the Newberry’s collections as a foundation, this workshop introduces the fundamentals of using archives for research. Participants will learn what archives are, what kinds of materials you can expect to find, and develop confidence in research strategies to find relevant collections. We will also discuss how to understand collection descriptions and what to expect when using archives in person.

Catherine Grandgeorge is the Manuscripts and Archives Librarian at the Newberry, where she has worked in various roles since 2014. She works to provide open and equitable access to information and is passionate about humanities focused research.

1 Session, $85 ($76.50 for Newberry members, seniors, and students). Learn about becoming a member.

We offer our classes at three different price options: Regular ($85), Community Supported ($80), and Sponsor ($90)Following the models of other institutions, we want to ensure that our classes are accessible to a wider audience while continuing to support our instructors.
