Canceled - Chicago and the Beats: How the City Shaped the Generation

The writers of the Beat Generation didn’t just blow through Chicago on their way to New York or San Francisco. In fact, much of the movement’s style and spirit, including the word “Beat” itself, can be traced to Chicago.

Out of an abundance of caution in response to the spread of COVID-19, we have canceled all remaining seminars in the Winter/Spring 2020 term. Please visit www.newberry.org/covid19 for further updates.

Please email seminars@newberry.org with any questions.

Seminar Description

Four sessions. E – $195, R – $214.5

Writer-photographer John Suiter is author of Poets on the Peaks: Gary Snyder, Philip Whalen & Jack Kerouac in the North Cascades. He is currently writing a biography of the Pulitzer prize–winning poet Gary Snyder.
