Seminar Description

Have you ever wondered why brides wear white, or why bridal gowns are swathed in lace? Are you longing for the excitement of a Royal Wedding? This one-day seminar will look at “Princess Brides” of the last centuries—including Queen Victoria, Queen Elizabeth II, Princess Grace of Monaco, Princess Diana, Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge, and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex—to learn the history and meaning behind every pearl, every flower, and every snippet of lace.

A Newberry scholar-in-residence, Debra N. Mancoff is author of The Face: Our Human Experience; Jane Morris: The Pre–Raphaelite Model of Beauty; and Flora Symbolica: The Pre–Raphaelite Language of Flowers. She writes on art, fashion, and culture.
