Canceled - Women on the Edge: The Extraordinary World of the Female Abstract Expressionists

The world created and inhabited by the Abstract Expressionists in mid-twentieth-century New York was a wild, crazy, bold, fascinating, and frenetically creative one, out of which emerged the first fully American style of painting.

Out of an abundance of caution in response to the spread of COVID-19, we have canceled all remaining seminars in the Winter/Spring 2020 term. Please visit www.newberry.org/covid19 for further updates.

Seminar Description

The world created and inhabited by the Abstract Expressionists in mid-twentieth-century New York was a wild, crazy, bold, fascinating, and frenetically creative one, out of which emerged the first fully American style of painting. The biggest celebrity artists of the period were almost all men, but there were equally talented and prolific women artists who often operated in the shadows. In this one-day seminar, we will bring these female artists into the light.

One session. E – $110, R – $121

Judy Pomeranz is an art critic and advisor. She has written and lectured widely on art history and has conducted numerous tours of exhibitions around the country.
