The Newberry's most "spirited" fundraiser is coming early this year. Join us on Friday, October 2nd to kick off the spooky season with Forbidden Newberry!
Forbidden Newberry will showcase the ominous, creepy, and absurd items that live in the Newberry collection. This year will feature two collection presentations:
Strange Americana: Vice President of Collection and Library Services and Curator of Americana, Will Hansen, will bring us back to haunting moments in American history. Featuring items from the Salem witch trials, the 1867 Horribles Parade and more!
Curious Costumes: Curator of Rare Books and Manuscripts, Dr. Suzanne Karr Schmidt, will provide all your costume inspiration needs when showing off our vast collection of costume-related materials throughout history. Including the whimsical Les fleurs animées and Europe's fashionable 17th century soldiers!
Each ticket includes entrance to both presentations, two drink tickets, hors d'oeuvres, and access to Halloween activities and entertainment.
Plus, enter our raffle for a chance to win a curated prize including tickets to a Hubbard Street or Chicago Shakespeare Theater production, gift cards to local restaurants, a collection of books, and more! Raffle tickets will be available to purchase on site for $5. Online raffle special 3 for $10 when added to your ticket purchase.
