This single-day seminar will explore basketball through the lens of philosophy. From a scholarly perspective, sports are often treated as frivolous or unthinking, firmly rooted in the lowly realm of practice as opposed to high-minded theory. Scholars and basketball enthusiasts alike might be surprised to learn that there is a wealth of captivating writing and research connecting basketball and philosophical concepts like metaphysics, game theory, Zen Buddhism, ontology, and Marxism.
