Join experts from the Ulster Historical Foundation as they describe the ins and outs of genealogical research focused on the Emerald Isle. In this program, veteran genealogists Fintan Mullan and Gillian Hunt will introduce researchers of all levels to several topics in Irish genealogical research and share how to get started with researching emigrant ancestors from the north of Ireland.

11 am to 12 pm Introduction to Archives in Ireland and Their Websites
12 to 1:30 pm Lunch on your own (please note that no food may be consumed inside the library)
1:30 to 2:20 pm Records Related to Different Churches in Ireland
2:20 to 3:15 pm Census Substitutes and Other Important Sources for the Eighteenth and Nineteenth Centuries
3:15 to 3:30 pm General Q&A Session
3:30 to 3:45 pm Solving Your Brick Walls Q&A Session
Fintan Mullan is Executive Director of the Ulster Historical Foundation and has been responsible for the management of this successful Belfast-based, educational non-profit since 2001.
Gillian Hunt is Research Officer with the Ulster Historical Foundation and is responsible for management of the Foundation’s many genealogical activities.

COVID-19 Safety Policies
This is a hybrid in-person and virtual event at the Newberry. At the library, we continue to require that all visitors wear masks and be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. (The CDC’s definition of full vaccination can be found here.)
You may be asked to show proof of vaccination before the program begins. Proof of vaccination can include a physical vaccine card, a photocopy of the card, a digital record or app on your phone, or a printed record from a vaccine provider. A valid photo ID is required as well.
Thank you for your understanding as we take measures to ensure a safe learning environment for our visitors, volunteers, and staff.
In addition, we are limiting capacity to ensure social distancing is possible. If you feel sick on the day of the event, or have been in contact with someone who is sick, please stay home and visit us another time.
In compliance with an emergency travel order issued by the Chicago Department of Public Health, some visitors arriving from outside Illinois must take certain safety measures before visiting the Newberry.
