Nuremberg at 80: A Chicago Family's Connection to the Trial

This program will be held in-person at the Newberry.

Join us for a conversation about how primary sources can illuminate the legacy and lessons of Nuremberg. Laurie Pasler and Daniel Greene will consider the trials’ impact on postwar narratives and politics through documents her father kept hidden after his U.S. Army service, as well as the role of Nuremberg’s record in classrooms today.

Speaker

Laurie Pasler is the Project Director of Courtroom 600 and the President and Executive Director of Descendants Media Group NFP, Inc. She is an award-winning creative director, producer, and entrepreneur who inherited her father’s hidden WWII memorabilia from working at the Nuremberg War Crimes Trials, and discovered a need for education about this unexposed slice of history.

Daniel Greene is Adjunct Professor of History at Northwestern University. He has curated multiple exhibitions, including Americans and the Holocaust, which opened in 2018 at the US Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, DC. The exhibition also inspired The US and the Holocaust, a documentary film directed by Ken Burns, Lynn Novick, and Sarah Botstein that aired on PBS in September 2022. From 2019 to 2023, Greene was President and Librarian at the Newberry Library in Chicago.
