Accommodations
The Newberry has negotiated discounted rates for its visitors with several hotels. To receive these special rates, tell the reservation clerk that you are with the Newberry. This list of accommodations is a convenience to visitors; it does not constitute an endorsement by the Newberry. Most of the following hotels are within walking distance of the library; be sure to confirm the location on a map before making reservations.

The rates below do not include 16.4% hotel tax for stays of less than 30 days, or 4.5% for stays of 30 days or longer.
Club Quarters
The Newberry is a member of Club Quarters, a private hotel offering reasonably priced accommodations at 75 East Wacker Drive (approximately a 20-minute walk, 12-minute bus ride, or 10-minute cab ride from the Newberry). See the 2013 member rates.

Most rooms have private bedrooms with shared bathroom facilities. Each bedroom has an extra-long twin bed, desk, and mini-fridge with microwave. Bed linens are changed weekly, and room cleaning is available for $30. Rooms offer a view of downtown Chicago and/or Lake Michigan. Rates vary depending on length of stay, but typically average $36 a night. For stays of thirty days or more, hotel tax is waived. Facilities in the building include meeting rooms, community kitchen with oven and range (pots and pans are available for check-out), laundry operated by coin or credit card, large fitness center, cafeteria, and free wifi throughout the building.

During summer months University Center offers full-service overnight accommodations for groups, including use of the building’s recreation area, fitness center, outdoor terrace, dining room, and laundry facilities. Suite-style units have access to common kitchenette and lounge areas located on each floor. Each unit includes an extra-long twin bed, desk and chair, bookcase, and closet with organizer for each guest. When searching for apartments online, it may help you to know that our neighborhood is known variously as “River North,” “Near North, “Streeterville,” or “Gold Coast.” The borders of these areas are not fixed, but places listed in these neighborhoods should be within walking distance of the Newberry. Chicago Apartment Finders can help with locating sublets; call 1-888-346-3377 and let them know that you are interested in short-term housing. One former Newberry fellow highly recommends Rent.com and Apartment Ratings. Another recommends Sublet.com, which charges a fee, but has a good range of apartments.
