Allen and Power Tanner Fellowships

The Allen and Power and Tanner Fellowships are Newberry Short-Term Fellowships that support research at the Newberry by scholars who are citizens or documented descendants of U.S. federally recognized tribal nations or Native Hawaiian individuals. The subject of the fellowship project is not limited to American Indian and Indigenous studies. Scholars working in all fields are welcome to apply.

Like all Newberry Short-Term Fellowships, these awards are open only to scholars who hold PhDs (or an equivalent terminal degree) and to PhD candidates who have achieved ABD status.

The Allen Fellowship supports female scholars. Preference for this award is given to non-tenured women working in any graduate or pre-professional field. The Power and Tanner Fellowship supports all scholars.

These fellowships are administered as part of the larger Newberry Short-Term Fellowship program. To apply, you must fill out the standard Short-Term Fellowship application form, indicate interest in the Allen and/or Power and Tanner fellowships, and identify your status as a citizen or documented descendant of federally recognized tribal nations in the United States or a Native Hawaiian individual.
