Registration Information

Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. Many of the seminars fill quickly so we encourage you to register early. There are two ways to register for a seminar at the Newberry:

  • Online with a major credit card (American Express, MasterCard, or Visa) using the embedded registration form at the bottom of the seminar web page.
  • By phone with a major credit card; call the Seminars Program at (312) 255-3700. (In order to allow the Adult Education Seminars Program to process the volume of online registrations, phone registration opens at 12 pm on the second day of the registration period.)

Confirmation

When you register for a seminar, a confirmation email will be sent along with any assignments for the first session of the seminar. If you did not receive a confirmation email, please check your spam or junk folders first and then contact us to confirm your registration. If you need to update your email address, please contact the Adult Education Seminars Program at seminars@newberry.org.

Early Registration

Early registration for each term opens between 4-6 weeks before the first seminar meets. During this period, prices are at their lowest. Early registration deadlines will be announced each term. After this deadline, registration costs will increase by 10 percent and classes with fewer than the minimum seven registrants will be canceled.

Member Registration

Newberry Associates members at the Literati level ($250 or above) are invited to register for seminars before registration opens to the general public. To learn more about membership and giving to the Newberry’s Annual Fund, please contact Vince Firpo, Director of Individual Giving, at (312) 255-3599 or firpov@newberry.org.

Discounts

We are pleased to offer a 10-percent discount to seniors over the age of 65, or Newberry Associates at the Author level ($100 or above), or students with a valid copy of their student ID. This discount is applied to the appropriate tuition price (either early or regular, depending on the registration date). Only one discount can be applied per registration.

Cancellation

Seven registrants are needed to run a class, and classes that do not meet this threshold by the early registration deadline will be canceled. In the event of cancellation, you will be notified, and your tuition payment will be refunded in full.

Refunds

To request a refund, please contact the Adult Education Seminars Program via email at seminars@newberry.org or phone at (312) 255-3700. The Newberry Library retains a 10% processing fee.

  • For one-day and two-session seminars, tuition (less the 10% processing fee) is refundable up to 24 hours before the seminar begins.
  • For multi-session seminars longer than two sessions, tuition (less the 10% processing fee) is refundable until 24 hours after the first seminar meeting.

Books and Materials

We make every effort to provide complete and accurate book and materials lists on each seminar page online. The Newberry’s Rosenberg Bookshop stocks most required and recommended titles for seminars. Associates of the Newberry at the Author level ($100 and above) receive a 10 percent discount on all seminar texts.
