Registration Information

There are several ways to register for a Newberry Adult Education Seminar:

  • Online with a major credit card (American Express, MasterCard, or Visa); follow the “Register Online” link at the bottom of each course listing page.
  • By phone with a major credit card, call (312) 255-3700.
  • By mail using either the registration form found in the Newberry Seminars brochure. Personal checks should be made out to the Newberry. Send forms to: Newberry Library, Attn: Seminars, 60 W. Walton, Chicago, IL 60608.

Registration Basics

Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. Many of the seminars fill quickly so we encourage you to register early. Full payment is required at the time of registration, and we cannot pro-rate tuition to compensate for missed classes. Seven registrants are needed to run a class.

Once we receive payment, a confirmation letter will be sent to you along with a reading or materials list for the seminar. Cost of books and other materials is not included in listed tuitions. If you registered online you will receive an email message confirmation. All seminars meet at the Newberry unless otherwise noted.

Early Registration

Early registration for each term opens between 4-6 weeks before the first seminar meets. During this period, prices are at their lowest. Early registration deadlines will be announced each term. After this deadline, registration costs will increase by 10 percent and classes with fewer than the minimum seven registrants will be canceled. All listed prices in the printed brochure reflect the early registration cost.

Discounts

We are pleased to offer a 10-percent discount to seniors over the age of 65, or Newberry Associates at the Author level ($100 or above), or students with a valid copy of their student ID. This discount is applied onto the appropriate tuition price (either early or late, depending on the registration date).

Refunds

Requests for refunds must be received in writing. To request a refund, email us at seminars@newberry.org. The Seminars Office retains a 10-percent processing fee. For single- and two-session seminars, tuition (less the 10-percent processing fee) is refundable until 24 hours before the seminar begins. For seminars meeting more than twice, tuition (less the 10-percent processing fee) is refundable until 24 hours prior to the second class meeting; we cannot give a refund once the seminar has met a second time. Requests for refunds may be placed over the phone, but must be received in writing or via email at seminars@newberry.org before the class meets a second time.

Books and Materials

We make every effort to provide complete and accurate book and materials lists on each course page online. The Newberry Bookstore stocks most required and recommended titles for the Seminars. Please call (312) 255-3520 or send an email to bookstore@newberry.org to find out what books are required for a seminar and to check on text availability.
